Waspa Cup review

Hello Ladies and Gents!
Last Wednesday was the occasion for the yearly Waspa Cup as well as SCB Division tournament.

The club divided the players into 2 divisions..or group...according to players XP, each player matched the others in the group twice.

At the end Hermann Kruse won the Division A and the cup, so congrats Hermann!
In the Division B newcomer Ronny Lange topped the table and will play a playoff promotion against Nico Müller who came fourth in the Division A.

La Wednesday we got back to action for the new year and new decade as well.
We thought to start with a vintage revival by playing HW World Champion Nations, welcoming the debut of our new member Ronny.

Review Meeting# 27

The Legend(a) Returns

On this occasion we returned to the Heavyweight replicas from Centauria‘s La Leggenda Platinum Edition series. The international friendly between Germany and Argentina the evening before resulted in a 2:2 draw and Erik and Nico gave it a try to replicate this football classic on the tabletop. Unfortunately both teams were difficult to tell apart once fielded. We were wondering why three (!) Argentina teams have already been released in the Leggenda series all wearing the iconic home strip. An away kit would have been handy instead. But in the end it turned out to be a minor problem only. The Southamericans showed some technical skill and tried spinning flicks time and again often successfully. Despite fierce defending and good goalkeeping Argentina went ahead 2:0 by halftime. In the second period Germany seemed to find better grip and foraged more and more into Argentina‘s half. Shots were either parried by the goalkeeper or deflected. Germany‘s best opportunity came when their attacker was fouled on the fringe of the penalty area. The resulting freekick couldn’t have been performed better but the shot was again parried by the (plastic)man between the posts. In the end it was 2:0 for the visitors in an overall exciting game.

Before that a warm up match had been played with modern Table Soccer Bases. The fact that it resulted in a goalless draw shall not mean that it was a dull game. There were plenty of scoring opportunities and some fine build up play to watch.

A few of us are very busy at work these days others were on holiday. We hope to welcome more attendees next time. Until then “just flick to kick”!


The Legend(a) Returns

Diesmal sind wir zurückgekehrt zu den Heavyweight Repliken aus Centauria‘s La Leggenda Platin Edition Serie. Das Freundschaftsspiel zwischen Deutschland und Argentinien am Abend zuvor endete mit einem 2:2 Unentschieden und Erik und Nico versuchten sich daran, diesen Fußballklassiker auf der Tischplatte nachzuspielen. Sobald sie aufgestellt waren, ließen sich die beiden Mannschaften unglücklicherweise nur schwer auseinanderhalten. In der La Leggenda Serie wurden nun schon drei (!) Argentinien Mannschaften herausgegeben, die alle das klassische Heimoutfit tragen. Ein Auswärtstrikot wäre stattdessen eine praktische Sache gewesen. Aber am Ende stellte sich das nur als kleineres Problem heraus. Die Südamerikaner zeigten sich technisch versiert und versuchten immer wieder und oftmals erfolgreich „Dreher“. Trotz stabiler Verteidigung und gutem Torwartspiel lag Argentinien zur Halbzeit 2:0 in Führung. Im zweiten Durchgang gelang Deutschland ein besserer Zugriff auf das Spiel und man stieß immer öfter in die argentinische Spielhälfte vor. Schüsse wurden entweder abgefälscht oder vom Torhüter pariert. Deutschland‘s beste Gelegenheit ergab sich nach einem Foul des deutschen Stürmers an der Strafraumgrenze. Der daraus resultierende Freistoß hätte nicht besser ausgeführt werden können, wurde aber vom (Plastik-)Mann zwischen den Pfosten erneut abgewehrt. Am Ende blieb es beim 2:0 für die Gäste in einem insgesamt ansprechenden Spiel.

Hiervor wurde ein Aufwärmspiel mit modernen Tischfußball-Sockeln ausgetragen. Die Tatsache, dass es in einem torlosen Unentschieden endete heißt nicht, dass es eine langweilige Partie war. Es gab zahlreiche Torraumszenen und gutes Aufbauspiel zu beobachten.

Einige von uns sind derzeit stark beruflich eingebunden, andere waren in den Ferien. Wir hoffen, beim nächsten Treffen wieder mehr Teilnehmer willkommen heißen zu dürfen.  Bis dahin „Schnipp & Schuss”!

Last Thursday we hosted a small Waspa Cup, it was a bit unannounced therefore not too many people showed up. It was fun nontheless!

We got back to action on Thursday, being a bit rusty and all...we had good fun!
Also, our friend Hermann Kruse is back from Australia and he will be a welcome presence at our meeting as he re-established himself in Berlin!

SC Berlin away in Gorizia

“Subbuteo Club Berlin Away at Gorizia”

This time in our traditional “SCB Away”-series we visited DLF Gorizia Gruppo Calcio Tavolo in Northern Italy. On short notice we were invited to join their weekly training on a Wednesday evening and we received a very warm welcome by everyone.

DLF Gorizia have a spacious room at their disposal in a former school building. At our arrival three tables were set up ready to play on but a huge pile of more boards in the corner made perfectly clear that this is not a small club by any means. In fact they count more than a dozen active players. The other thing that immediately becomes clear is that this is a club with a history and a notion for the game’s past. Besides advertising posters of tournaments long gone by there are beautiful pictures of Subbuteo’s early days including a picture of the man himself: P. A. Adolph from Langton Green, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, the iconic inventor of Subbuteo. A cupboard full of trophies and a board full of pennants tell a lively story that once even included participation in the Subbuteo Champions League. That also means that it is a competitive club focusing on modern table soccer only. For our readers who are not familiar with the Italian Subbuteo scene you must know that Italy is divided into Old Subbuteo enthusiasts who prefer the rules and equipment from the 70s and 80s and the modern Table Soccer players who follow the more international FISTF rules.

Last time SCB went to Italy we met the Old Subbuteo fraction at Real Tripolitania in Rome. Expecting something similar we only took a Heavyweight replica with us this time. Thankfully a modern base team was kindly lent which turned out to be a very useful item. Made by the club’s president himself these bases are rather unique at least for us at SCB and playing with these bases was delightful.

Both the players of Gorizia and SCB ambassador Nico had to resume playing after a long summer break. All games played were tight and enjoyable.

We wish DFL Gorizia good luck for their upcoming league season in Italy’s Serie D. Although Serie D is “only” the fourth tier these guys are top class and we’re looking forward to meeting them again at the Grand Prix in Berlin in November. Arrivederci e grazie!


“Subbuteo Club Berlin auswärts in Görz”

In unserer traditionellen “SCB auswärts”-Serie besuchten wir diesmal DLZ Gorizia Gruppo Tavolo in Norditalien. Trotz einer nur sehr kurzen Vorlaufzeit wurden wir zum wöchentlichen Training an einem Mittwoch Abend eingeladen und dort von allen sehr herzlich empfangen.

DLF Gorizia hat einen großzügig bemessenen Raum in einem ehemaligen Schulgebäude zur Verfügung. Bei unserer Ankunft waren drei Tische spielbereit aufgebaut, aber ein großer Stapel weiterer Platten in der Raumecke ließ unzweifelhaft erkennen, dass es sich ganz und gar nicht um einen kleinen Club handelt. Tatsächlich zählen sie mehr als ein Dutzend aktive Spieler. Die andere Sache, die sofort klar wird ist, dass es sich um einen Club mit Geschichte handelt und eine Vorstellung von der Vergangenheit dieses Spiels. Neben Ankündigungsplakaten längst vergangener Turniere gibt es wunderschöne Fotos aus der Anfangszeit des Subbuteo inklusive eines Bilds DES Mannes selbst: P. A. Adolph aus Langton Green, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, dem kultigen Erfinder von Subbuteo. Ein Regal mit Trophäen und eine Wand voller Wimpel erzählen eine lebendige Geschichte, zu der einst sogar die Teilnahme an der Subbuteo Champions League zählte. Das bedeutet auch, dass es sich um einen Club handelt, der den Wettbewerb sucht und sich nur auf das moderne Tischfußball konzentriert. Unsere nicht mit dem italienischen Tischfußball vertrauten Leser müssen hierzu wissen, dass sich Italien in zwei Lager spaltet: Old Subbuteo Enthusiasten, die Material und Regeln der 70er und 80er Jahre bevorzugen und moderne Tischfußball-Spieler, die den mehr international ausgerichteten FISTF Regeln folgen.

Letztes Mal in Italien traf der SCB mit Real Tripolitania in Rom die Fraktion Old Subbuteo. Etwas Vergleichbares erwartend, hatten wir diesmal nur eine Heavyweight Replik mitgenommen. Dankenswerterweise wurde ein Team mit modernen Sockeln ausgeliehen, was sich als sehr gut spielbar herausstellte. Vom Vereinspräsidenten selbst hergestellt, waren diese Bases ziemlich einzigartig, jedenfalls verglichen mit dem, was wir im SCB kennen.

Sowohl die Spieler von DLF Gorizia als auch unser Botschafter Nico mussten nach einer langen Sommerpause erst wieder ins Spiel finden. Die ausgetragenen Partien waren allesamt vergnüglich und gingen knapp aus.

Wir wünschen DLF Gorizia viel Glück für die bevorstehende Saison in Italien’s Serie D. Obwohl die Serie D “nur” viertklassig ist, sind die Jungs von Gorizia top und wir freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen beim Grand Prix in Berlin im November. Arrivederci e grazie!
