Arrivederci Roma!

Vom 16. bis 18. September 2022 fand der FISTF World Cup in Rom statt. Wir waren vor dem Turnier stolz darauf, drei Mitglieder in unserem Club zu haben, die ihr Land dort vertreten würden. Am Ende waren es vier! Hier ist der Bericht von unseren deutschen WM-Teilnehmern, Leon und Carsten.

Am Donnerstag vor dem Turnier hatten wir eine entspannte Anreise mit dem Flugzeug von Hamburg nach Rom, anschließend mit dem Bus zum Hauptbahnhof. Das Hotel war fußläufig zu erreichen. Freitag dann eine Erkundungsrunde durch Rom.

Samstag ging es mit dem Taxi zum Spielort. Ein toller Austragungsort! Wir waren um 8:45 Uhr dort und haben gleich ein paar bekannte Gesichter getroffen. Frank Stiller, Simon Stewart und unsere beiden Vereinskameraden Hermann und Oliver.

Leider gab es gleich zu Beginn Verzögerungen mit der Startzeremonie. Im Turnier selbst durfte Leon immerhin sofort ran und sich mit Cyganek Jérome messen. Zur Halbzeit stand es 0:0 und es gab Chancen auf beiden Seiten. Am Ende war der glückliche Gewinner dann aber doch Cyganek Jérome, der mit 1:0 gewann. Leon hatte am Anfang des Jahres schon einmal gegen ihn gespielt, damals aber wesentlich höher verloren.

Es folgten für ihn zwei weitere, sehr lehrreiche Spiele gegen Fricano Lorenzo, der es bis ins Halbfinale schaffte und den Griechen Skouros Panagiotis. Die Spiele gingen leider deutlich mit 0:5 respektive 0:4 verloren.

Am Ende des Spieltags der Individual-Wettbewerbe kam der Mannschaftsleiter der deutschen Delegation auf uns zu und fragte, ob wir beide bereit wären, am Sonntag in der Open-Kategorie Mannschaft zu spielen. Leider gab es zuvor im deutschen Team unerwartete Ausfälle. Wir waren beide sehr stolz und geehrt, machten uns aber keine großen Hoffnungen, etwas zu gewinnen.

Sonntag dann der große Tag mit Spielen gegen Malta, Spanien und Irland!

Das erste Spiel gegen Malta (Gauci Mark) ging für Leon (eine Halbzeit) und mich (Carsten, eine Halbzeit) am Ende mit 0:14 verloren. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren wir am Boden angekommen, haben aber trotzdem viel gelernt. Das Mannschafts- Spiel verlor Deutschland am Ende klar 0:3 gegen Malta.

Irland war der nächste Gegner. Leon hatte es mit Brendan Rodgers zu tun und es super gemacht. Zur Halbzeit führte Leon mit 1:0! Es war ein extrem spannendes Spiel, welches letztlich etwas glücklich mit 2:3 an den Iren ging.

Leon war sehr verärgert über die Chancen, die er im Spiel liegen gelassen hatte, aber auch sehr stolz über die ersten beiden geschossenen WM-Tore.

Nachmittags kam Spanien und ich (Carsten) durfte mein zweites Länderspiel bestreiten und das komplett! Gegen die routinierten Gomez Ros / Jose Antonio 0:4

Ein tolles Erlebnis und eine tolle Mannschaft!

From September 16th to 18th, 2022 the FISTF World Cup took place in Rome. Before the tournament, we were proud to have three members in our club who would represent their country there. In the end there were four! Here is the report from our German World Cup participants, Leon and Carsten.

We had a relaxed journey by plane from Hamburg to Rome, then by bus to the main train station on Thursday. The hotel was within walking distance. On Friday we strolled through Rome to explore the city.

On Saturday we took a taxi to Cinecitta. A great venue! We got there at 8:45 am and immediately met some familiar faces. Frank Stiller, Simon Stewart and our two club mates, Hermann and Oliver.

Unfortunately, there were delays in the opening ceremony. In the tournament itself, Leon was allowed to play immediately and clashed with Cyganek Jérome. It was goalless at half time with chances on both sides. In the end, however, the lucky winner was Cyganek Jérome, who won 1-0. Leon had already played against him earlier this year, but lost more heavily back then.

Two more games followed for Leon against Fricano Lorenzo, who made it to the semi-finals, and the Greek Skouros Panagiotis. Unfortunately, the games were clearly lost with 0:5 and 0:4 respectively. Leon had been taught a lesson and he can learn from the defeats.

At the end of the match day of the individual competitions, the team manager of the German delegation approached us and asked if we were both ready to play in the open category for the German national team on Sunday. Unfortunately, there had been unexpected absentees in the German squad. We were both very proud and honored but didn't have high hopes of winning anything.

Sunday suddenly became the big occasion for us with games against Malta, Spain and Ireland!

Leon (one half) and I (Carsten, one half) lost the first game against Malta (Gauci Mark) 0:14. At that point we had hit the ground running, but we still learned a lot. In the end, Germany clearly lost the international game 0:3 against Malta.

Ireland was the next opponent. Leon dealt with Brendan Rodgers and did a great job. At half-time, Leon led 1-0! It was an extremely exciting game, which ultimately ended somewhat happily 2:3 for the Irishman.

Leon was very upset about the chances he missed in the game, but also very proud of the first two World Cup goals scored.

In the afternoon Spain came and I (Carsten) was allowed to play my second international and that completely on my own! Against the experienced Gomez Ros / Jose Antonio it ended 0:4 though.

A great experience for us and a great team!
